The Newton South Booster Club is excited to announce its 4th annual Lions 5K, a community road race and fundraiser scheduled for Sunday, May 18, 2025.
The Lions 5K road race and fundraiser encourages connection, builds community, and inspires school pride. It is a spirited tradition that each year brings together more than 500 runners, walkers, volunteers and spectators from Newton South and the surrounding community. We invite local businesses to join us as new or returning sponsors for this year’s race to help continue this meaningful celebration.
The Newton South Booster Club supports the athletic programs of Newton South High
School by raising funds for essential items and initiatives not covered by the city’s budget and organizing activities that build school and community spirit. Newton South is a large high school with over 1,860 students, nearly half participate in athletics during the school year. The school fields 60 teams across three seasons, including the largest Unified Sports Program (teams that pair students with and without intellectual disabilities compete together) in the state.
This year, the Lions 5K will help us achieve two key objectives:
1. Continue to support South's athletic department, teams, and overall school spirit.
2. Update and enhance South’s sports facilities, which serve both the high school and the community. Improvements include replacing an outdated shot clock to meet MIAA compliance and creating a welcoming, modern space in the field house foyer that honors current programs while celebrating South’s rich athletic history.
