Lions 5K Sponsorship Info
We are excited to announce the inaugural Lions 5K, a Newton South Booster Club fundraiser scheduled for Sunday, May 15, 2022. The event will draw participants from across the Newton and the Newton South community, including students, parents, families, alumni, friends, and more. We are pleased to offer our local area businesses the opportunity to join us as a race sponsor.
The Newton South Booster Club is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization that supports the athletes, coaches, teams and athletic program of Newton South High School and works to build school and community spirit.
Newton South High School numbers over 1830 students with roughly half participating in our athletic programs during the school year. The school fields 60 teams across three seasons, providing programs for a wide range of student interests. And while high school sports have always played an important role, they became critical over the past two years, providing an opportunity for students to exercise, challenge themselves, socialize, compete, and feel a sense of normalcy during a very turbulent time. Sports events also became a focal point for students to gather and be together again as a community.
The goal of the Lions 5K is to continue the forward momentum we’ve experienced this year, building the strength of our athletic program supporting our teams, coaches and athletes, and bringing a sense of spirit and fun into the school and community. As the cost of running a program of this size and scope is outside of the funding available from the school district, we are reaching out to our community for help.
Our fundraising will provide much-needed items for our athletic department, teams and athletes, including:
- A sound system for our stadium field
- Windscreens for our softball field
- Protective track covers Equipment needs for our athletic trainer
- A fund to support specific team needs
- Concession stand improvements
- New team record banners
- Financial assistance fund for athletes
